A Glowing Maternity Session at Jack Hill Park | Carmela + Matthew + Max
A Peaceful Evening at Jack Hill Park
Carmela and Matthew's maternity session was a dream from beginning to end. We met at Jack Hill Park in Elk Grove, California—one of my favorite local spots for golden hour portraits. The tall grasses, wooden bridge, and lush greenery gave us the perfect mix of rustic charm and soft light.
Carmela wore a stunning white flowy dress that caught the light with every step, and Matthew kept things casual but classic in jeans and a white button-up shirt. Their fur baby Max came along too—he was such a good boy and posed like a natural!
Confidence and Calm
Before the session, Carmela mentioned in her questionnaire that they were a little nervous—this was their first professional photo session. But you’d never guess it! They quickly settled in, and the love and excitement they share for this next chapter just radiated through each moment we captured.
They were gentle with one another, always smiling, and totally in sync. And Max? He was so well-behaved! He stayed right near them, posing like a pro.
Wrapped in Golden Light
The glow of the setting sun was pure magic. As Carmela stood beneath the tree canopy, golden light filtered through the leaves, wrapping her in the softest warmth. She paused here, resting her hands on her bump, her expression full of peace and joy.
Every detail—from the breeze in her dress to the gentle light dancing on the grass—felt like it was meant just for her. It’s the kind of calm that only shows up when everything aligns just right.
A Moment for Two
When Matthew stepped in for the second half of the session, the love between these two was immediately clear. Whether they were sharing a laugh, holding hands, or standing close with their foreheads touching, every moment was full of tenderness.
One of the most touching parts was when Matthew knelt to kiss Carmela’s bump—a quiet, heartfelt moment that perfectly captured the anticipation of parenthood. They were completely in sync and fully present with one another.
Adding One More to the Family—Max!
And then there was Max—their fur baby and future big brother—who completely stole the show. Max posed like a champ and never strayed far from Carmela and Matthew’s side. He sat between them for several portraits, ears perked and eyes full of love.
One of my absolute favorite moments from the entire evening was when Carmela and Matthew leaned in for a kiss and Max just sat there looking up at them. It was the perfect blend of adorable and heartwarming, and such a sweet reflection of the love this little one is already surrounded by.
A Personal Connection
This session was extra meaningful to me because I’ve had the pleasure of working with Matthew’s family before. A few years ago, I photographed his sister Emily for her senior portraits. It’s always such an honor when families come back to me for more milestones—especially something as special as welcoming a first baby. Getting to be part of that journey and preserve those moments is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Wrapping Up
Carmela and Matthew, thank you so much for trusting me to capture this incredible season in your life. You two were so genuine and joyful, and Max added the perfect touch of sweetness. I hope these photos always remind you of the quiet excitement, golden light, and deep love you felt in these last few weeks before becoming parents.
