Cozy Newborn Portraits for Baby Luke in Elk Grove, California
A Thoughtful, Blue-and-Green Newborn Session for the Duncan Family
There’s something incredibly special about photographing newborns—and baby Luke Alexander Duncan’s session was no exception. Born on May 1, 2025, at 9:52pm, Luke weighed in at a healthy 8 lbs 6 oz and measured 20 inches long. Just days after his arrival, I had the honor of welcoming him (and his sweet family) into my Elk Grove home studio for his very first photo session.
Luke’s mom, Michele, wanted his portraits to reflect soft, earthy tones—specifically blue, green, and brown. With that vision in mind, I carefully styled multiple sets to bring that peaceful, cozy palette to life while also keeping the spotlight on Luke’s precious features.
A Session Full of Soft Textures, Gentle Colors & Sentimental Touches
We started with a snuggly soft blue wrap and matching bear-eared hat, creating a dreamy setup with a fluffy blue fur backdrop. Luke looked absolutely angelic swaddled up and resting peacefully. One of my favorite touches? A custom name swaddle that Michele had made and brought along—it added such a personal feel to his images and made those shots extra meaningful.
From there, we moved into a sweet pale blue knit outfit with a sleepy hat and pom-pom detail. Luke gave us a few sleepy smiles, cuddled his little teddy, and even showed off those teeny baby toes. Every detail was just perfect.
Next, we brought in a natural woodland vibe with a soft brown bear outfit and forest green accents. Nestled in a wooden heart-shaped bowl surrounded by faux greenery, Luke looked like a little forest cub curled up for a nap. One of my favorite setups from this session was the swing. It was styled right on top of my big studio beanbag for safety and comfort, but the final look gave us all the charm of a whimsical hanging swing—this setup has quickly become a client favorite.
Family Connections & Sweet Surprises
Midway through our session, we discovered a fun coincidence—Luke’s family and I go to the same church in Elk Grove! It's always such a small world moment when clients become familiar faces in other parts of life too.
We ended the session with some simple, heartwarming shots of Luke in his parents’ hands. These black-and-white portraits are always a favorite—they highlight just how tiny and treasured a new baby really is.
Welcome to the World, Baby Luke!
This newborn session was filled with gentle colors, tender moments, and so much love. Baby Luke was calm and content, and it was such a joy to create timeless images that the Duncan family will treasure for years to come.
