There’s something so special about watching little ones reach their first birthday milestone—and Addison’s one-year session was pure joy from start to finish! I’ve had the honor of photographing this family through so many beautiful seasons—Natalie’s college graduation, Addison’s newborn portraits, and their cozy Christmas family photos—and it was such a treat to capture this new chapter for them.
Mom’s vision for Addison’s cake smash was rustic, timeless, and floral, with soft neutral tones accented by delicate blush and rose pinks. The result was a sweet, nature-inspired setup that perfectly fit Addison’s gentle personality. From her vintage-inspired dress to the floral details and cuddly stuffed animals, every touch felt warm and sentimental—just like their family.
Family Portraits Under the Willows
Before the cake came out, we started the session outdoors beneath the soft, golden light filtering through willow trees. Natalie and Edwin looked radiant as they snuggled their sweet birthday girl, who wore an adorable cream tulle dress adorned with delicate floral embroidery.
These portraits beautifully captured the love and connection this family shares. Natalie’s rose-colored dress added a lovely pop of color while tying into the floral theme, and Addison’s calm, curious expression was the perfect reflection of her personality—observant, joyful, and oh-so-lovable.
Simple & Sweet Milestone Portraits
Next, we transitioned to a timeless setup featuring a little white step stool, a vase of blush and cream florals, and a wooden “One” sign. This scene focused entirely on Addison, capturing her bright eyes, sweet smiles, and growing confidence as she stood proudly next to her display.
The sunlight filtering through the trees created a natural, airy glow, bringing out the soft textures in her dress and headband. These images are the perfect reminder that milestone portraits don’t need to be complicated to be meaningful—sometimes simple details tell the most beautiful stories.
Party Time with Her Favorite Friends
Addison’s second setup brought in a playful, heartwarming touch—her favorite stuffed animals, each wearing tiny party hats! Surrounded by soft greenery and warm afternoon light, Addison sat proudly in her little wooden chair, hugging her cuddly pals as if they were guests at her first birthday party.
This setup added the sweetest personality to the session, blending nostalgia and whimsy with a touch of rustic charm.
The Cake Smash Celebration
And then came everyone’s favorite part—the cake smash! Addison’s setup was pure magic: neutral and pink tones, soft florals, a blush blanket, and a dainty white cake topped with a gold “One.” She was surrounded by the same plush animals from before, now cheering her on as she explored her very first birthday cake.
At first, she curiously poked at the frosting, then broke into giggles as she tasted it. Most little girls are a bit hesitant when it comes to getting messy, but not Addison—she absolutely loved it! She dove right in with both hands, happily digging into the cake with pure delight. By the end, her little fingers and cheeks were covered in frosting, and her smile said it all—it was a perfect way to celebrate turning one.

It’s been such a joy watching Addison grow this past year—from her newborn session to this milestone moment celebrating one year of laughter, curiosity, and sweetness.
