Newborn Portraits for Jackson James Taylor-Smith | Elk Grove Newborn Photographer

Welcoming a new baby into the family is always a beautiful moment, but it’s even more special when it’s for a returning client. I had the absolute joy of photographing baby Jackson James Taylor-Smith for his newborn session in my Elk Grove home studio. Born on May 23rd, 2025, at 12:01 pm, weighing 8 lbs 5 oz and measuring 20 3/4 inches long, Jackson was calm, sleepy, and absolutely perfect. He slept nearly the entire session, making every setup and transition seamless.

This session held extra meaning because it was my seventh time working with the Taylor-Smith family! I first photographed big sister Avery as a newborn and through several milestones and a couple of family sessions. Capturing baby Jackson now feels like continuing a family story, and it was such an honor to help document this next beautiful chapter.

Cozy Neutrals and Soft Blue Wraps

We kicked off Jackson’s session with a soft blue wrap against a creamy fur backdrop, adding a teddy bear and sweet sleepy poses to create those classic newborn portraits. From there, we transitioned him into a bowl setup layered with cozy blue fur textures. His peaceful little face and gentle snuggles made for such heartwarming images.

Next, we moved to a beige bean bag for a minimalist setup, featuring a wooden round plaque with the message "Love you to the moon and back." Finally, we changed Jackson into a snuggly brown teddy bear romper for the hanging swing prop. With greenery and cozy textures, this sweet setup gave a charming finish to the first collection.

Dreamy Blues and Classic Posing

The next setup focused on timeless newborn posing, starting with Jackson in a rich blue wrap that was gently opened to highlight his tiny hands and feet. This was done on a cream-colored beanbag with natural light to create soft, clean images.

We then let Jackson stretch out just a bit, draping a simple wrap over him and capturing a variety of poses—from side laying to tummy time and even a snuggle with a white bunny. These quiet, unwrapped poses really showed off his sweet features and soft baby skin.

Olive Green and Sweet Suspender Outfit

Next came one of my favorite looks—an adorable olive green suspender romper paired with a matching plaid-trimmed sleepy hat. We styled Jackson on a light brown beanbag cover to let the outfit pop while keeping the tones earthy and warm.

Jackson posed on his side, on his tummy, and with his hands tucked sweetly under his chin. He looked absolutely darling in every shot. These outfit setups are always a client favorite, and this one brought such a sweet and playful feel to the session.

A Special Touch with Parent Portraits

We ended Jackson’s session with one more soft green outfit and a rustic wooden bed setup—a warm, cozy look with a vintage feel. As he stayed sound asleep, we then brought in Mom and Dad for some intimate black-and-white portraits.

Jessica wanted timeless, classic images, and these parent portraits delivered just that. Their connection, the way they cradled and kissed Jackson, was such a beautiful way to close out the day. Big sister Avery wasn’t at this session, so the focus stayed on just Jackson and his proud parents.
