Dreamy Floral Newborn Portraits | Ishani’s Studio Session in Elk Grove, CA
There’s something so special about seeing families return with their newest little one. I first photographed the Kumar family’s first baby, Nivaan, during his newborn session last year — so it was such a joy to welcome them back to my Elk Grove home studio for baby Ishani’s portraits. This time, her mom envisioned a session full of soft florals, pinks, and purples, with a touch of whimsy. Ishani’s calm and curious personality shined through every setup, making her session both peaceful and full of sweet expressions.
Wrapped in Lavender Dreams
We started Ishani’s newborn session with a lavender wrap surrounded by layers of purple florals and greenery. The tones perfectly complemented her soft skin and tiny features. Her delicate floral crown added just the right finishing touch, giving this setup a garden-inspired, serene feel.
Blossoms and Butterflies
Next, we added a playful twist to the floral theme with lavender butterflies nestled around Ishani. The texture of the soft fur backdrop paired beautifully with the pastel purples, creating a scene that felt both delicate and full of wonder. Ishani gave the sweetest little glances before drifting off to sleep, perfectly capturing that newborn magic.
A Pop of Plum
We transitioned into deeper tones next with a rich plum lace outfit and matching tulle bow. The setup was simple yet elegant, accented with soft pink flowers to tie in the session’s feminine palette. The way Ishani relaxed into these poses showed just how content she was — pure sweetness from start to finish.
Adding a Personal Touch
To add variety, we introduced a small “Hello World” wood plaque and a few fresh floral accents, giving the setup a more personalized touch. Ishani’s calm little snooze in this scene summed up the cozy, peaceful vibe of her session perfectly.
Sweet Slumber in Blush Pink
Mom loved soft pinks, so we created a snuggly bed setup with a pink knit sleeper, fluffy blanket, and cascading flowers. The wooden bed added a timeless, classic touch. Ishani looked completely at ease — and as every newborn photographer knows, those peaceful moments are pure gold.
Cuddles and a Little Bear
To build on the pink setup, we added a tiny stuffed bear for Ishani to hold — one of those small details that instantly adds warmth and connection. The way she gently clutched the bear made for the sweetest touch to an already tender moment.
Blush and Bloom Swing
A highlight of the session was fulfilling Mom’s pose request — a floral swing setup inspired by cherry blossoms. Soft pinks and airy blooms created a dreamy, feminine scene, and Ishani looked absolutely angelic. Whether awake or snoozing, she seemed perfectly content swaying under her cascade of flowers.
Soft Simplicity with a Classic Touch
For her final look, we went with a cozy mauve outfit paired with a small wooden bench and a classic teddy bear. The soft watercolor background brought all the session colors together beautifully. It was the perfect way to wrap up Ishani’s portraits — natural, sweet, and full of charm.
A Session Full of Meaning and Connection
It’s always such an honor when families return to me for their next newborn session. Watching Nivaan step into his new role as a big brother and seeing this family grow has been so heartwarming. Ishani’s session was everything Mom hoped for — soft, floral, and full of life. I’m so grateful to have captured these early memories for the Kumar family to treasure for years to come.
